At last some good news

RBS will cut funding to sport. Hopefully, it might encourage less sports coverage on TV.

BBC Sport has learned the Royal Bank of Scotland is to end its sponsorship of the Formula One team Williams as a direct result of the economic downturn. The partnership, which began in 2005, will conclude when the current contract finishes at the end of the 2010 season.

The move is part of RBS proposals to cut its funding of British sport by a massive 50% by 2010. The bank also says it plans to review its sponsorship deals with individuals such as tennis star Andy Murray.

  3. I think the tax payer should cut funding to the banks too !
Savers will give this incompetent, sleazy, corrupt government one hell of a bloody nose in the next general election... that's if Gormless doesn't resign before 2010 !

  5. O.K. Alice it works like this :Shall I give you the good news first etc.
    Now for the Bad news?
Feb. 26 (Bloomberg) -- Royal Bank of Scotland Group Plc will put 325 billion pounds ($462 billion) of investments into a state insurance program and shift toxic assets to a new unit after posting the biggest loss in British history.

Edinburgh-based RBS, the largest bank controlled by the U.K. government, plans to transfer 540 billion pounds of assets, including derivatives and mortgage-backed securities, to the new division, mirroring the so-called bad bank created by Citigroup Inc. last month.

  6. Oh Dear. Sorry Alice but you've just alienated the majority of your male followers! At least with Sport it takes you away from the doom and gloomy reality of whats going on in the country.
Sport slots would probably be filled with other rubbish shows anyway!
Anyway, keep up the good work. I read your blogs from my google reader, hence not many comments lately.

    Andy

  7. Alice, what do you have against sport? I loathe reality TV, and so never watch it. You could avoid watching sport if you so chose. Neither of us needs to have the other programmes banned. That's what personal choice and responsibility is all about - you do what you like and I ditto.

How about a compromise: Participants from reality TeeVee as targets in ski-shooting?

  9. You know how to pick 'em. Whoever first thought to spice up shooting by putting it on skis - what a guy! And then put it on TV - even better. Give me Canadian lumberjacking, that's just a hoot. Let's hope RBS thinks twice before stopping that funding

  10. I just want Northern Rock to stop sponsoring half of St. James' Park.

    That'd do me.

  11. You seem to be confusing sport with Formula One.

  12. I have pointed out in an earlier post the new British mass sport is watching unsold cars go nowhere fast.
The old government subsidies to 'sport" are being transferred over to the new popular
sport. Naturaly comercial sponsorships are begining to
    recognise the new reality.
