As a Midlands born man, I would rather be living in Derby than shacked up in some prison like box studio in London! Did you see the size of those houses on that posh estate!
People live life (with a social life) up north and work their life away down south (without much of a social life).
It's all ghastly. Gray clouds, upended traffic signs on half-finished roadworks, a complete disappearance of what made the area distinctive once upon a time. But the London suburbs--any suburbs anywhere, for that matter--look no different. Shaun of the Dead, and no mistake. And we all allowed it to happen.
Coming from leafy Sheffield, (the greenest city in Europe and full of trees and parks), which is just up the road from Derby, I can only echo some of the comments above.
Who would want to live in a tiny, hideously over-priced box in a crime-filled hell-hole like London?
This new housing estate looks ok to me. some nice big plots. Why do people feel the need to have a go at places because they don't live there. I would much rather live up north where people are freindly to each other and don't look down their noses at you. You can keep your overpriced London homes, I'm off to Chellaston !!
Fair enough, I'll avoid the "I've never been north of watford" posts in the future.
However, the pressure to write something everyday is sometimes very difficult. Occasionally, there is the temptation to put out a youtube clip as a substitute for something substantive.
Derby is city doing very well at the moment, don't knock it! If you moved from London you could live like a king in one of these new houses and still have change for a fish supper.

These are big houses. Looks ok to me, nice and spread out unlike most housing estates. I would love to move there.
